Marsha's story

Marsha Edwards is a Jamaican living in Sheffield. She is a committed Christian. Marsha has recently completed a degree at Sheffield University and was due to attend her graduation ceremony on 22 July 2011. She was also heavily involved in the Prison Ministry where she attended prisons in South Yorkshire to encourage inmates to have a positive outlook on life regardless of their current situations.

Marsha was removed from her house for immigration reasons on Wednesday 20th July by South Yorkshire Police and held prisoner at Moss Way Police Station until Thursday night when she was taken to Yarl's Wood Immigration Removal Centre, Bedfordshire.

Whilst in Yarl’s Wood Immigration Removal Centre Marsha has been a credit to Sheffield Church and an inspiration to many detainees who have come to look to her for spiritual leadership and support.  She has preached the message on a number of occasions and organises the choir and holds regular prayer meetings as requested by other detainees. She is highly respected by the detainees and some Detention centre staff.

In terms of her appeal we have won the first stage which has stopped any deportation action. We are in the process of submitting an application for her bail which means she will be back with us soon pending approval of her application for discretionary leave to remain. The discretionary leave will give her right to study and work within the UK for a specified period. At the end of this period she can apply for indefinite leave to remain in the UK.

We have all been touched by Marsha's life and ministry. She NOW! needs your financial support to regularise her stay. We have had to engage expensive specialist emigration solicitors to petition her case. Please give generously. You can pay money directly into the Marsha Appeal fund account at Halifax Bank:
